5280 Magazine says...

The annual Top of the Town issue of the mighty 5280 Magazine has just hit area newsstands. Each year the Top issue honors the best of Colorado's food, entertainment, art, sports and fashion culture. The new issue gives our beloved Dale's Pale Ale a whopping honor of Best Colorado Export. Oh yeah!

The blurb on the honor reads:

Lyons' Oskar Blues has gotten a lot of love over the years, gathering attention in the New York Times, Men's Journal and even on the Today Show. Unlike other spotlight grabbers - ahem, Britney Spears -- this attention has actually been earned. Quite simply, Dale's is the best beer - can or bottle. It's hoppy, strong but eminently drinkable. And now that Oskar Blues is distributing across the country, the rest of America gets to savor our finest beverage.

Good gracious!! To be deemed the finest beer in one of the nation's finest beer-making states, well, you know how big that is.

Three cheers for the skilled and hard-working artisans on our brewing and canning crew!

Back Home, Gettin' Some

After a whirlwind beginning to the summer festival season it was good to get back home, of course we didn't rest...instead we headed to the hills to remind us why we call the Front Range Home. We did a 3+ hour romp with Redstone Cyclery on Tuesday, Halallula! Here are a few before the DARKNESS took over.

That was Tuesday, Wednesday we headed out with the Bitterbrush Crew as well...ahh it feels good to be home.

Life, Love & Leaving

With all the high country classic Crested Butte singletrack under snow folks had to "settle" for the singletrack that leads right up to the door. All of my travles to CB have been targeted at the extreme high country of the area, I hadn't even seen the trails that run right out of town...not to shabby. After a relaxing Sunday evening reliving the experiences of the weekend we hit the trail Monday morning on our Spot Brand singlespeeds for our good bye tour. Strand Hill was the first destination as we hit the Upper & Upper Upper trails on our way to the views of Teocalli Mtn. Upon reaching the money shot we ran into Paige & Glenn from Bitterbrush Cycles here in Lyons, proof that great minds do indeed think alike. With the great views & buddies it was a chance for celebration over an ice cold trailside Gordon. We then rallied the Canal Trail back down to the deep but suprisingly rideable water crossing before Brush Creek road.
To switch it up a bit we hit the Whetstone Vista Trail back to Upper before heading out for part 2. Part 2 brought us the quick & to the point Snodgrass trail. The intial pitches were tough, but the flowers & descent made all the pain worth it...I think.

Cheers to you CB, thanks for the Love - CM

Wild Flower Rush - Crested Butte, CO

The Dale's Pale Ale / Spot Brand team headed west to the wonderful world of the western slope. We stopped in Gunnison for the final race of the spring round of the Growler Race Series. We teamed up with Pie Zans pizza in Gunnison to throw the end of spring series party, cheers to Pie Zans for the free New York Style pizza.

From there we headed to Crested Butte for stop #4 of the Mountain States Cup Series. The lower elevation CB singletrack & race courses were bone dry & dusty, odd considering snow melt had the rivers rippin'. The team didn't have as much success as some of the events in the past but Jen Gersbach's string of consistent results again anchored the team with a 4th place finish in the Pro Women's cross country. After the racing the good time vibe continued as we hosted the 2nd clunker crit of the MSC 2008 season. Cheers to those that were able to ride hard & keep that Dale's Pale Ale down. The crit ran alongside a raffle that gave away nearly $10,000 worth of merchandise. In the midst of the crit & raffle we also completed the vibe with a game of beer fueled Corn Hole. 2 lucky SOBs walked away with the winner take all $140 grand prize after an intense shoot out against the mafia racing crew, thanks for the cocktail brotha! Keep an eye out for the 21 and older Clunker Crit & the Corn Hole Shootout at the MSC races to come. The Corn Hole Shoot Out kept the good times rolling.

The town of Crested Butte was inundated with cycling for the entire Fat Tire Bike Week. Ride the Rockies had been in town through Friday morning & as they were rolling out the MSC participants were rolling in. In addition to the racing there was the Bridges of the Butte 24-Hour Townie Tour that went from 3:00 p.m. Saturday through 3:00 p.m. Sunday. This super fun event benefits the Adaptive Sports Center’s adaptive ski program in Argentina which takes place each fall. Thanks to the Brick Oven Pizzeria for hookin a brother up with a mullet wig & a townie to join in, not to mention keeping me full of brew.

The Mountain States Cup crew really did a lot of work to ensure the snow didn't slow down the event at all, cheers. Rumor has it that there will be a Dual Slalom course next year at this event...mmmm.

While shedding a tear I bid farewell to the beautiful town that nearly stole my heart. Thanks to everyone for making this a special weekend in one of Colorado's truly magical places. We did get out for one last ride before we left...but that's for a different day.

be well,

National Trails Day - Picture Rock Trail

Well, we did it! We all helped pull off the largest POS volunteer trail work project in recent history. We counted 217 waivers, so that's what we are saying is official. Thanks for standing up & taking trail building to the next level. Watching the volunteers enjoy the afternoon and each other's company is a result that is just as satisfying as the 8400 feet of trail we got built! We are building community, and that will pay dividends for years to come.
