Mountain States Cup # 3 - Angel Fire, NM Pictures

We're finally getting unpacked & rested from the weekend, this one always gets me. There's simply too much bike riding & driving to be done in the extended weekend. I always get back in the middle of the night and am off to a super busy & shortened work week. It was good to finally get past winter weather conditions & kick of the MSC the way it should be, with plenty of endurance & gravity events to go around...not to mention the trail riding available...what a place! Whew, I gotta get back after it but wanted to share as much of the weekend as I have on my camera. I'm sure the return of Photo Eddie to the fold will yield some quality shots as well; I only stole 3 from his arsenal so far.
I know it's the new header but...damn Eddie takes a fine photo. Jen Tilley heads into a loose left hander in the Short Track.
Dellys Starr & her pretty Australian National Champ paint job joined us again, welcome back!
Speaking of welcome back...Dell & Chelsea get chummy before the SS XC. Chelsea is returning from a bad case of bathtub iron lung (not exactly)...good to see you girl!
The SS men take off...yep that's the only gear you have for the next 2100 ft(per lap) of volcanic rock & mud climbing...better stand up & settle in.
Robin gettin' in the pain cave headed back up for the 2nd lap.
Yep, 1 to go.
I felt good & the bike felt great. DPA/Spot Brand went 1st & 2nd in the SS XC.
The CDS system worked well as the rain fell & conditions became rocky, rooty & greasy at the upper elevations of the course.

OMV flexed his muscles easily winning the Cat 1 15-19 STXC on his new Spot Brand Longboard 9.
A great Photo Eddie shot of OMV off on his second lap. He had a good lead before he had some tubeless tire issues & his buddy Brae (Congrats on graduating)caught him for the win. Mike will catch some luck sometime soon after a rough first couple of rounds. He did still hang on for second despite having to stop multiple times.
Our girl Jen Gersbach finishes the Pro Women's XC in fourth against a stacked field. Girl is getting her form back...better watch her as the season progresses.
Dell stands as she begins lap 2...One to Go..One To Go..ONE TO GO!
Aahh the racing is done, time for food, beer & staying young. A big shout out to Rich who had a big weekend...his first race & he popped the big question to his new wife to be. CONGRATS GUYS!
A (too)big group hit the South Boundry trail Monday for an epic day that saw rain, hail, snow & sunshine. It looks like fun & games here, not too many pictures from the 2nd half of the ride though.
Yep, this is one of the last ones...taking cover from the hail.

Thanks for another fun trip to Angel Fire, NM & MSC #3. Keep an eye on Photo Eddie for more.

Thanks to these folks for keeping us rolling:

National Trails Day - Heil Ranch
Saturday June 6th
Food & Drinks From Oskar Blues!

The trails on the front side of Heil need a face lift. Poor design and construction methods, along with years of multi-use has resulted in a gravelly, loose trail. Good news: we know how to fix it. Come out on National Trails Day and help us put the shine on the front side to make the WHOLE of Heil Valley Ranch as enjoyable as Picture Rock and Wild Turkey.

BCPOS and BMA want to bring the old trail up to the standards of the new trails (Picture Rock & Wild Turkey). Long, straight runs are no longer the way to go in trail building. Grade dips and contouring ensure a more sustainable trail system and a more enjoyable ride.

This is more challenging than putting in new trail because we have to build a trail within a trail, bringing in the old trail and putting in the contours, grades and water diversion structures, thus reshaping the trail tread. We broke ground on this project May 09 - if you've been out there, you've probably noticed that the ride near the Pondo/Wild Turkey Junction is a bit more stable and a lot more fun.

Oskar Blues will make sure volunteers don't go hungry and don't go dry!

Register! WildWorkVolunteers@BoulderCounty.org or call 303-678-6193

Sufferfest!
We Need Volunteers
BMA needs 2 volunteers to join the "Inner Circle" to help plan, organize, direct & implement the 2nd Annual event slated for September 12/13th. The good news: we've established & documented the details & logistics based on our successful first year in 2008. The bad news: you'll be working your butt off so everyone else can have fun... Seriously, this is not a trivial work/time commitment. However, the template has been cast and it's pretty damn rewarding when you see all those happy, swooning faces around the campfire. If you're ready to serve your fellow MTBers & have big fun in the process plz contact Hersch: email or 303.570.9177 ASAP as decisions & planning start right away.

Team IMBA to Fund BMA's Next Trail Project?
BMA has been reaping the benefits of Team IMBA since its very first fundraising event held in 2007 at the 24 Hours of Moab. That year, $185 was raised on BMA's behalf. In 2008, BMA got another $1,287. This year BMA's award is already over $800 and could easily top $10,000 if BMA members get involved. Want proof? Team IMBA at the Sea Otter Classic raised close to $7,000 among seven participants in less than one month by working with their local club to get the word out. Due to a new matching grant from SRAM, that seven grand resulted in a check for $10,500 to the San Francisco Urban Riders, which will help fund their new Youth Bike Program. What could we do with an extra $10,000 for trails in Boulder County?
Below are three ways to dive into the funds:
1. Support the riders who are racing for BMA by making a personal donation, organizing a benefit party, or connecting them with potential corporate sponsors.

2. Become a rider! Team IMBA's on-line tools make fundraising easy and the races are super fun! We already have a "Friends of COMBA" team for the Breckenridge Firecracker 50 and they could use a little friendly competition. All participants who sign up before June 1 qualify for pro deals on elite GT bikes and earn other great prizes as various fundraising targets are met. Plus you'll get free massages, beer, and BBQ after your race no matter how much you raise.

3. Become an Event Captain for Team IMBA at the 24 Hours of Moab. Help us recruit 12 or more riders and you stand to win a brand new GT Marathon Carbon Pro mountain bike!

If you want more mountain biking near Boulder, YOU BELONG WITH TEAM IMBA. Contact Wendy Kerr at team@imba.com or 303-545-9011 ext. 119 to bite the bullet now.

2009 DJ/Skills Park Upgrade for Lyons Outdoor Games

The Town of Lyons has been working with Lee McCormack from Lee Likes Bikes and Yellow Designs Stunt Team to make The Lyons DJ/Skills Park a unique and one of the most promising parks in the state! It will have a natural terrain area with step ups, step downs, and an awesome pump track.

Below is a general schedule of the plan, please notice & let us know if you are interested in participating in the volunteer days below in Bold:

Week of May 18-22:

All materials delivered - Locations marked. Ready to build.

Week of May 25-29:

Area A: Place and shape main hill & Jumps, rollers/jumps/slalom.

Brian Gavagan and the Yellow Designs Stunt Team will be there May 26-29 to build the wooden lips, help finish the dirt work and test the trick jumps. Brian is setting the schedule with his guys. They will help however they can. ***Photo op for P.R.*** The more we have in place when these guys show up, the better!!!

Area B: Start placing dirt/rock on small hill, pump track, natural terrain loop. Get as far as possible on this, focusing on LHE placing the rock. Multiple equipment crews would be ideal, so we can double-team.

Weekend of May 30-31:

Volunteer work/ride day(s). Hopefully minimal sweeping/shaping/massaging. We will plan this day based on where we are. Barn Burner After Party!

Week of June 1-5:

Finish building small hill, pump track, natural terrain loop. Final tweaks.

Get people to ride as much as possible.

Weekend of June 6-7:

Work/ride days. The park should be built by now. These sessions should be mostly riding and community building.

a NEW Spot Ti for Belt Busta's

I was able to catch just a few shots of the new Spot Titanium CDS ride that made its debut at the 18 hours of Fruita. This Mama's Little Yella Pils inspired beauty is light & tight...no possibility of rust on this baby. I'll try to get a few more shots of some of fine details of this rig.

Space Race...Good Bye...Happy Birthday!

Vanilla Bean Old Chub Firkin

Firkin Friday at The Tasty Weasel will unleash a Vanilla Bean Old Chub Firkin at 4:00PM

Speaking of Old Chub, check out Whole Foods locations, Oskar Blues & The Tasty Weasel for Old Chub Beer Bread.

Here are the details:
Whole Foods stores in the gourmet grocer's Rocky Mountain region are now carrying a special tag-team baked good: Old Chub Beer Bread.

It combines our celebrated Scottish Ale with the wizardry of the company's Rocky Mountain Bakehouse in Aurora.

Each loaf of Old Chub Beer Bread is made with nearly a full can of Old Chub, in a wheaty sourdough base enhanced with a touch of honey and a hearty dose of sunflower seeds.

The loaves are then rolled in the beechwood-smoked malts we use in Old Chub, then baked to glorious perfection.

Andy Clark and his crew at the Bakehouse are now sending this delicious bread to Whole Foods stores across Colorado, and stores in New Mexico, Kansas and Utah.

The bread is found in the fresh bread racks in the bakery section of these stores.

We're psyched about our yeasty partnership with Whole Foods. Not to mention the glorious flavor of the bread and the bennies it delivers both of our quality obsessed companies.

Find this gem in the local Colorado stores below. If you don't see it Yell, Kick & Scream until you do!
