a surprise sighting

In the January, February edition of Mountain Bike Magazine I was surprised to see myself pictured on P. 34 with details of this coming years 10th annual 24 Hours in the Old Pueblo brought to you by Epic Rides. Funny too...because right next to my picture is a short couple sentences about "Do Not Drink From A Bottle Today"...i don't think it has any connection to my photo since they talk about the first canned beers hitting the shelf in 1935, also a small shout out to Pabst.

Hope to see you everyone at THE Cyclocross race here in Lyons this coming weekend. Check out the details HERE

New Years Celebration @ Oskar Blues

Last Redstone Tuesday Night Ride of 2008

A group of 4 met at Redstone Cyclery for a pre-christmas jaunt up left hand canyon. Rockin' Ron had taken a test run for us so we knew what we were in for. I was still surprised at how much dirt & little of snow/ice we saw on the descent, it made the stiff climb worth it. Here's a big shout to Death March Dave for leading us on another season of fantastic rides.

Enjoy the holidays, cheers!

home sweet home & a fish outta water

This time of year presents a side of Hall Ranch I really enjoy. Covered with the calm of winter & sprikled with wildlife the park presents itself in a much more relaxed manner than that of the crowded hot summer. I like to think of it as my Hall Ranch this time of year. Despite the cold weather I headed out Saturday to spend some time climbing the Antelope trail & heading down the Bitterbrush descent. I rode the partially packed trail hard & had one dab & one short hiking section before I made it to the bench. From there it was a good time heading down to highway 7. My 29" Kenda Nevegal 2.20s are really proving to be a good snow tire, the 29er gets rolling in that snow too. I found a fantastic pair of "winter" gloves at the gas station which I did a head-to-head test vs. my old school Pearl Izumi AmFIBs...yep the homeboys & girls down the street at Pearl Izumi really know how to make some winter riding gear. Their booties & gloves kept me warm enough on the cold day as I chose the pair of AmFIBs for the descent.
I was able to get the time up over an hour after getting back to town & hitting the local ghetto singletrack. I headed over to Redstone Cyclery for a post ride beer & good conversation with mtb mike & the redstone crew.
Sunday I changed gears & headed up to the mountains to hit the snow on err....more conventional snow equipment...my Rossignal skate skis. Like a fish outta water...I was a bit intimidated when our group turned into a handfull of local pro mountain bikers.a who's who of local pro mountain bikers hittin' the snow.(left to right) Jen Tilley, Erin Huck, Jen Gersbach, Megan Monroe, Brian Fuentes, me & Chris Butler.

Days of movies & snow

As the Cyclocross Nationals were off & running under what are considered "good" midwestern weather the front range received a dose of real winter. After a day nearing 60 degree's on Saturday we headed out on singlespeed approaching 5 degrees on Sunday morning. Breakfast burrito's and a healthy dose of coffee sparked a trio to meet at Redstone Cyclery to rip the local ghetto singletrack. We caught some fresh tracks and the later end of the ride was greeted by a touch of sunshine.

Last night we headed out to cinebarre in Thornton to meet up with the MILE HIGH SCI-FI guys & over a few Dale's Pale Ale and a movie. We're celebrating the new partnership & venue for Mile High Sci-Fi...never been to one????? CHECK THIS OUT!

Rado represented well in the Women's Elite National Championships...congrats ladies.

2008 Colorado Cyclocross State Championship Photos

Here are the State Championship shots from the ONE...THE ONLY....(drummroll please)PHOTO-CYCLE.COM
Cyclorcoss, Front Range Rocky Mtn style!
Long shadows for fast legs....
Another warm sunny and dry day graced the course, riders, and spectators.

The sand pit really wasn't ridable with it's rutted out hairpin turn. Although, it did provide for plenty or crashes and good spectating.

The Pro Ladies are strung out on the first lap with the usual suspects at the front. Kerry Barnholt led it out, and was kept in close check by Lisa Strong of team Tough Girl and Karen Hogan of Chipotle-Titus for the entire race, whom finished 2nd and 3rd respectively.
Boulder local Velo Bella racer, Jen Tilley rode a great race, and won a two up sprint to finish 4th out of 31 ladies in the open/pro womens field. In addition to the Mavic neutral support team in the pit area, Dale's Pale Ale brought the RV & donated brewski's to Valmont Bike Park who along with VeloNews drummed up $1,600 for the park

Kerry Barnholt, our Womens 2008 Colorado State Cyclocross Champion. Good riding Kerry!
I had a terrible start but started working my way forward until...
I took a bad line through a left hander & paid for it.
Aaahhh that's better.
Last lap for the pro men and Jake leads it.
Pro Men CO State Championship, L to R:
Brandon Dwight, Matt Pacocha, and Jake Wells

Colorado Cycolcross Championship quicky

What a change in conditions...Saturday the Arapahoe Ridge elementary school had snow covered ground...sunday the wind had dried the ground up creating some tacky conditions. Not much great coming from me this weekend but it was a fun event with a bunch of good racing. Congrats to those of you who earned a jersey & thanks for all the close racing. Here are a few from the men's open race, the full monty of shots from photo-cycle.com will be coming soon.

Dubba, Jake & Pacho head out on the last lap.
Dubba lead the whole way forcing Jake to chase, they hit the sand pit one last time.
With 2 turns & 2 straightaways remaining Dubba kept Jake chasin'.
Outta the 2nd last corner Dubba pins it. Unfortunately I was too slow to catch the result of the final sprint but congrats to Matt Pachoca for a consist ant season & a convincing state championship. Thanks to everyone for the close racing, it was a good time & we raised $1,700 more for Valmont Bike Park.

Here's a shot that describes my day pretty well. I came into a left hander a bit hot & got mixed up in some bumpy dirt piles.

We'll get more from the state championships yet this week.
