Lyons Outdoor Games adds more competitions (Denver Post)

As outdoor multisport festivals go, the Smith Optics Lyons Outdoor Games is sort of a Teva Mountain Games held in a high-country Mayberry. Point being, if you like your mountain biking, steep creek, slalom and freestyle kayaking, skateboarding, fly-fishing and canine cannonball competition in an intimate setting with a side of Oskar Blues brews and a band or six, the Lyons Outdoor Games are there for you.In their seventh year, the games get underway Friday and go through Sunday with vendors and bands setting up in Lyons' centrally located Sandstone Park. Mountain sports take place in the surrounding natural arenas including sections of the South Saint Vrain River, the Bohn Park bike track and the Kurt Carlson Skate Park.

In addition to the pro show, the grassroots festival offers ample opportunity for burgeoning bike jumpers, skateboarders, kayakers and fishermen to test and improve their skills in clinics and citizen competition. Organizers have also added more races, chainsaw carving exhibitions and more. Camping will be available in Meadow Park.
