Girls Education International to auction off pro mountain bikers at annual fundraising event

Have you ever wanted to go mountain biking with one of the pros you see in the pages of the mags? You may have seen photos of Sonya Looney in the pages of Mountain Flyer. What would it be like to spend a day riding the gnarliest trails on the Front Range with her? Or, have you thought about visiting Oregon or Washington State? What if your personal guide for the day was racer Stephanie Nychka? At Girls Education International’s annual Beats for Books fundraising event at The Spot Bouldering Gym on Tuesday, October 27, you can bid in a live auction on days climbing with one of these or many other mountain biking or rock climbing stars. Check out the athlete and start bidding online by clicking HERE.

In addition to the live auction, your $25 ticket includes the chance to see Boulder Adventure Film movies throughout the evening, a presentation by legendary rock climber Lynn Hill, two-hour climbing clinics for people of all ages and climbing abilities, unlimited Oskar Blues beer (with ID, and for imbibing after the clinics), food donated by Sherpa’s and Whole Foods, and music throughout the night by local DJ, Dirt Monkey. Outdoor gear and clothing from more than a dozen companies in the outdoor industry will also be auctioned off at a silent auction, as well as fine art, photos, and jewelry donated by artists Emilie Lee, Renan Ozturk, Kate Rutherford of Suspended Stone Designs, Dan Gambino, Topher Donahue, Joel Love, Janet Guenther, Celin Serbo, Keith Ladzinski, John Dickey, Mikey Shaefer, and many more.

All proceeds after costs will fund two girls’ scholarship programs in Liberia and Pakistan. The mission of Girls Education International is to provide educational opportunities and support to under-served girls in remote and undeveloped regions of the world. For more information or to buy tickets for the event, please visit their Website: www.GirlsEd.org. Tickets can also be purchased in Boulder, Colo., at Neptune Mountaineering, The Spot, and The Boulder Rock Club. Tickets are $25 presale and $30 night of. Student discounts are available with a valid ID. One ticket pays for one half a scholarship, so bring a friend and pay for one girl’s education for an entire year!

This event is possible only because of generous donations made by the title sponsors, The Spot, The North Face, and Oskar Blues Brewery, as well as Clif Bar, Stonewear, Neptune Mountaineering, Boulder Balm, Eddie Clark Photography, the American Alpine Club, Jetboil, Green Guru, Izzy, Hugger Mugger, Julbo, Boulder Rock Club, Ames Adventure Outfitters, Manduka, Evolv, Climbing Magazine, Adventure Medical Kits, Glassworks of Estes, Boldface Design, Pacific Outdoor Equipment, Suunto, Market Square Liquor, and Third Street Chai.
