Boulder Reservoir Master Plan - Public Meeting

We need a few people to attend the Rez Master Plan Public Meeting tomorrow night. As you know, riding out there is like watching paint dry. This is our opportunity to get some new trails on the plan. Read the description below and try to show up and make a positive impression for the cycling community. Once the Master Plan is done, the opportunity rolls around again in 20 years.

cheers,
Bobby

Boulder Reservoir Master Plan - Public Meeting
Wednesday, April 7, 2010
5:30-7:30 p.m.
Calvary Bible Church
3245 Kalmia Ave.

The City of Boulder Parks and Recreation Dept is creating a new master plan for the Boulder Reservoir. If you want to see an improved trail system on the lands surrounding the Reservoir, please attend this meeting and let 'em know!

Our concern is this: The preliminary management plan for the West Shore proposes to create a Habitat Conservation Area that won't allow any trail corridors, thus blocking any potential future trail - even tho 51st st goes thru this area.

This leaves no room for creativity in trying to make a trail connection. We're not saying put a trail through the wetland, but I am saying leave enough flexibility in the management plan to at least put a trail next to 51st Street. Perhaps this language can be tweaked at some point to ensure that habitat preservation remains the priority, but we don't preclude the possibility of getting people off 51st St?

Suggested Talking Points

- I support a well-planned multi-use trail system at the Reservoir
- I support better trail connections between the Reservoir and other trails
- I support the concept of a multi-use trail corridor circling the Reservoir that avoids wetlands
- I support bicycling and other trail use as a very important activity at the Reservoir

Meeting Agenda:
5:30 - 6:00 Open House
6:00 - 6:15 Staff Presentation
6:15 - 6:45 Q & A
6:45 - 7:30 Open House
