Event Highlights:
Kick off the mountain bike racing season in Colorado at this exciting new venue. You'll be tempted to take your eyes off the trail to enjoy the majestic scenery that surrounds you - snow covered peaks of the Greenhorn and Wet Ranges, rocky bluffs and crags rising above Lake Pueblo and narrow technical canyons to wind through. The Arkansas River Valley amid 200 year old juniper pines and rolling mesa is the backdrop for this scenic season opener. Valmont Work Day This Saturday AM

Join BMA for a hands on opportunity to visit the coming Valmont Bike Park and help out in creating one of the finest bike parks on the planet. Sign up here! On Saturday, March 26th, from 9am to 1pm, we need 30 volunteers to help seed the turf between the trails. Although this is not a trail building experience, we are trying to establish native grasses on site. The excavation and grading of the site has left many areas barren, and we need your help in getting the turf started.

We will meet on site at 9am and spread out across the site and spread a custom mix of seed consistent with the grasses on the front range of Colorado. After the work is complete, we will provide lunch and provide a tour of the site. Unfortunately, there will be no bike riding allowed this day. Getting the turf established is very important to getting the park open this spring. Please show your support of our Parks Department and BMA. The City of Boulder Parks Department is hustling to get this open as soon as possible, and this is one of the many steps. We want to show out support, with 30 hard working volunteers, sign up now.

Sign up now! It's your chance to stand at the top of the podium and get your sneak peak!

And you did see that latest update this past week, right?

Rocky Mountain Endurance Series March Newsletter

Nice weather, dry conditions, and longer days are calling us to get on our bikes and hit the trails! We enjoyed dialing in the Voodoo Fire course with the help of Pueblo local Janet Ross of Great Divide Ski Bike & Hike, and Austin Clark of Southern Colorado Trail Builders Association. The spectacular trails of Lake Pueblo State Park are a hidden gem. This racecourse highlights the special place that Vance of Vance's Bicycle World and many others in the group have created. You will want to include this inaugural race on your calendar.

The course features 90% singletrack with names like The Duke, Quatro Cinco, Voodoo, Outer Limits, Rollercoaster and Stonehenge. For map and course directions, please visit the Voodoo Fire race page. Western Maps has accurately detailed this sprawling system and allowed us to use their map.

For those of you who have not yet registered for Voodoo Fire, you have a few more days for early registration. On April 1, the entry fee will increase to $85. The first 200 to register receive a goodie bag and custom clothing. You can support a racer by volunteering on Race Crew, and get them a discount on their entry fee. Our events are successful because of the support that we receive from our volunteers. We encourage family, friends and the local community to join our Crew. There are opportunities at Voodoo Fire, April 23, and the Denver Fat Tire Festival, May 7, in areas such as operations, registration, aid stations and course marshalling. Please contact John Hutchinson at hutch@warriorscycling.com. A big thanks to all of you who help make these events a success.

Tuesday Night, what a difference a time change makes

Last week we humped it up the steeps of LHOHV in the snow & damp weather. What a difference this week...
...hosting near 20 people on the ride we stayed local and enjoyed the warm weather & early departure of the time change.
...of course we couldn't stop at sun down and had to leave the confort of Hall Ranch for legal night riding before heading to Oskar Blues for some brews.

Weekend Long in the Tooth

It's that time of year....enjoying the warm weather of the Front Range spring at Horsetooth Mountain. Keith leads the order heading up the Westridge Trail with the view of the Blue Sky Trail dropping into the background.
One word for Horsetooth: Steep, well I guess you could lump long in there as well.
Single Speed hearts the heart on the slopes of the tooth.
Stopped to put the heart back in my chest & dig the view.
Keith hitting a tough techy section.
snap, 2.
got it.
Doug hits the Single Track of the Wethen Trail.
Doug & Troy top out with the Towers behind them....ready to head down.
Doug drops down the Loggers Trail, a good descent after humpin' the SS up.
Keith smooth and flowy on a tricky little high speed rock notch.
Troy enjoying the descent.
From there we went south to grab dinner and a Nuggets Game. Dale's Pale Ale on Draft at The Pepsi Center. The Nugs are back with a chip on their shoulder with Melo gone. They kept thw win streak rolling & the evening started to rev up before heading to The New Mastersouds show.
It was a long day & night....a day in the life.
umm, yep.

If the weather cooperates we are hoping to start work next Saturday, March 12, 2011 with a spring storm delay postpone date of March 19th and then we will keep trying every Saturday until mother nature decides to let us on her door step.

We will meet at the the South trailhead off LeftHand Canyon, Geer Canyon at the pavilion at 8:30 AM. Our project site will be near the bridge above the meadow. We'll have a County vehicle to take some people and encourage folks to ride or walk up to the site.

The Final 6

pm ride that is.

Next week starts daylight savings time and rides take off promptly at 5:30 to get some of that daylight. We hit up Lefthand OHV during a week of mixed weather, that place is a diamond in the rough of bad conditions....granted it's steep enough to force you to chew on your handlebars while climbing, but ain't nothin' free 'round here.

Check out Dirty Doug on his new Turner Snow Bike, yep that's a nice piece of work. Check out more details from DOUG HERE.
The Gordon Imperial Red ML7.5 had it's first taste of trail on the steeps of OHV after being reclaimed.
Doug was rallying the climbs, the Leadville Winter Mountain bike series and the new ride has brought out the demons in him.
Doug railing through snow covered trees.
Matt painfully rocking the SS before his beer bail...I can't blame him.
Chris rolling under ice covered bushes.
Sean getting throught the singletrack as well.
The regroup before the descent and brews. Here's to the upcoming time change....

The Final from Leadville Winter Mountain Bike Series

After getting his ride stolen, Dale let me borrow his Raven Snow Bike, but he did leave a note. We was rockin' the soul patch icecicle. Dirty Doug takes a post race tug. He showed up on a piece of work, stay tuned for images of that baby. The men behind Raven Cycle Werks made it to bang around with the Lead Heads.....she's a looker.Ahh, Scott Banks enjoyes a reward & took home some OB swag. Then it was time for Ski Jouring & brews....jump to flat.

Thanks again for another year of high elevation night time bike racing & celebrating.....See you next year.

BMA goes Round 2 for West TSA Petition

Most of you know what is going down in the West Trail Study Area (if not, read more here). This is the access battle of a generation. According to Open Space Board of Trustees outgoing chair Bill Briggs, "It's about more than bikes." The Boulder Mountainbike Alliance couldn't agree more.

BMA remains optimistic that mountain bikers can gain reasonable and responsible access to some trails in the West TSA, but city council needs to hear from you first. You must help dispel the myth that we are a bunch of adrenaline-fueled speed junkies with no concern for our families, our environment, and our community.

Here's what BMA needs you to do TODAY...SIGN The Petition
Your signature on this new petition goes a long way.
What's the gist of the petition? "Dear City Council; It's high time to bring mountain bikers into the fold. Please accept us as citizens, as neighbors, and as the current and future open space stewards that we are."

Tell city council that you support bike access on Anemone Hill and on a north-south connector trail. Please send your letters to city council to council@bouldercolorado.gov

If you want to get more involved and help out in these last few days before the March 15th City Council meeting, the BMA Advocacy Team could use your help. Contact them at advocacy@bouldermountainbike.org to lend a hand.
